Amouage, founded in 1983 by Sultan Qaboos bin Said in Oman, creates luxurious, opulent fragrances.
Few Gulf houses have a start like this one. Amouage was set up in Muscat in 1983 by Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, at the request of Oman's late Sultan Qaboos bin Said. French perfumer Guy Robert made the first scent, sold at first simply as Amouage and known today as Gold. Amouage Perfumes in the UAE still lean on materials long loved in the Gulf, like incense, oud, rose, musk and spice, and at V Perfumes you'll find bottles for men, women and unisex.
If you only try one, make it Interlude Man. Pierre Negrin created it in 2012, and it opens with oregano, pepper and bergamot, sinks into incense, opoponax, amber and labdanum, then settles on oud, leather, sandalwood and patchouli. It's smoky and bold, more of an evening scent than an office one. Want it deeper still? Interlude 53 is the extrait version, made at a 53% dosage and aged for six months at Amouage's own factory in Muscat.
Gold is still here for anyone who wants the house's first perfume, while newer names like Guidance, Purpose, Reasons, and Lustre show where Amouage has gone since. Most of these fragrances are luxurious and suit Eid and weddings. To compare with other Gulf houses, browse our Arabic perfumes, or see the wider luxury perfumes collection.
Online at V Perfumes, with delivery to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and every other emirate. Every bottle arrives original and sealed, and cash on delivery is available on selected products.
Oman. The house was founded in Muscat in 1983 and still runs its own factory there. Since Gold, the catalog has grown to more than 150 perfumes, from classics to newer releases.
Interlude Man is the headline pick if you like smoke, incense and oud. Beyond the men's bottles, many of the unisex scents, such as Purpose and Search, work just as well on him, so it's worth looking past the gender label.
Yes, and the house was built for it. Amouage still uses the line The Gift of Kings, a nod to the days when its perfumes went out as royal gifts. For her, Gold is the classic choice. For him, Interlude Man is the safe bet if he likes smoky scents.
