Freesia and allspice open it. Heliotrope, hibiscus, jasmine and rose form the heart, and the base brings together cedar, frankincense, sandalwood and musk.

Two choices in that pyramid give Pour Femme its character, and both sit at the edges. Up top, allspice shares the opening with freesia. Allspice is a dried berry whose smell recalls several kitchen spices at once, which is how it got its name, and putting it beside a light flower means the first spray is floral and warm at the same time instead of sweet. Down at the base, frankincense joins the woods. Incense is not a usual partner for a women’s floral, and here it adds a dry, faintly smoky resin under the cedar and sandalwood. Notice what is missing: no vanilla, no fruit and no citrus anywhere.
