Patchouli d'Angkor is the lightest patchouli in this guide and the easiest to wear in summer. Nathalie Lorson opened it with pear and bergamot, so it starts almost like a fruity cologne, then jasmine and a peppery note from Réunion fill the heart before the patchouli arrives on white musk and guaiac wood. The patchouli is there, but it is a clean, slightly sweet version of the note.

This is the one to wear in Jeddah at 2pm in June. Humidity usually destroys patchouli perfumes by pushing the base out too early, but the white musk here is built to carry in exactly those conditions and the pear keeps it fresh for the first hour. Fabrice Pellegrin took patchouli and built Patchouli Mania around hazelnut, cacao and tea, with Clearwood (a modern, cleaner patchouli fraction) in the heart and natural patchouli with vetiver and cetalox in the base. The result smells like cocoa nibs and roasted nuts on a dry wood floor. It is nothing like the floral patchoulis above.
